Massachusetts 2000 State Quarter:
A tribute to the heroic Minutemen of the American Revolution.
The 2000 Massachusetts State Quarter was the sixth coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program.
The coin design portrays a “Minuteman” soldier, a symbol of courage and patriotism during the Revolutionary War. Standing proudly against an outline of Massachusetts, the coin captures the spirit of the state and its historical significance. Inscribed on the right side are the words “Massachusetts” and “The Bay State,” reinforcing its identity.
On a side note, children were the only people allowed to submit designs for the Massachusetts Quarter. Over 100 submissions were received, and after careful consideration, the Commission narrowed them down to five finalists. In a tie, the winners were two students from the sixth and seventh grades.
